Chinwag Jobs, started life in late 2000 as a small, yet perfectly formed email announcement list of jobs in new media.
Initially, a simple beast, it was set up by Sam Michel when he noticed that more and more uk-netmarketing discussion list subscribers (UKNM to its friends) trying to find staff. Sam's idea was to match all the lovely people on UKNM and Chinwag's other email lists with these vacancies.
The list, originally called uknm-jobs, became well-known within the new media world, and was soon being used by the leading new media agencies, recruitment agents and dotcoms. Over the next few years, it experienced a steady growth in job hunters and vacancies sent.
By late 2005, Chinwag Jobs was sending millions of emails each month without a search or any of the handy features you'd expect from people keen on their web technology.
It was most definitely time for the next phase in the life of Chinwag Jobs. Fortunately, Thayer Driver and John Grimsey joined the Chinwag team to put together a website that would do it justice.
In January 2006 after many smoothies, a great deal of coffee and more than a handful of late nights, a new era for Chinwag Jobs was hailed with the birth of the new website based on a design by Claire Littley.
The website now runs alongside the original email list, with a stack of useful new features including tailored email alerts, saved searches, online applications, RSS feeds and a heap of other exciting things that will keep us plenty busy for the foreseeable future.
You'll notice the beta badge on the homepage. We keep this up there to remind ourselves that we have a tonne of ideas to build into our site. And we're constantly getting more from our users, which is brilliant.
Our aim is to create the best recruitment site for the industry keeping it simple, effective and most importantly fun. This is reflected in our tag line "work in new media". It should be as simple as that.
The commercial side of Chinwag Jobs is run by Thayer Driver, with John Grimsey heading up the team that keeps the technical side cranking away. We're always looking for suggestions, feedback and chocolate, so do get in touch get in touch if you fancy a chat.
